He charged like a wild bull, this once-great priest and scholar, bony spikes sprouting between his knuckles. Anthousa raised two fingers in warding, and her spell deflected his jagged fist. Around them, Kelari clashed in the streets of Atia.

“Kelari blood runs in the gutters because you cling to old, stupid ways!” sneered Karris, a wave of heat from his open palm melting her ward away.

The High Priestess made no sign of discomfort even as the dregs of Karris’s spell singed her eyebrows away. He’d become obscenely powerful; Anthousa had to keep him talking. Anthousa found her most imperious tone, always close at hand. “Kelari blood need not concern you, Karris. All I see is another gibbering Wanton.”

Rift Ember Isles

To understand the Lore relations between the Ember Isles and Telara,  I have tried to provide a brief synopsis of key events in Telaran lore.

As a major component to the Ashes of History, the Ember Isle will reveal some important insights on the forging of Telara. On the Ember Isle, an alliance will form between the dragon cult of Laethys, dragon of earth, represented by the Golden Maw; and Maelforge, dragon of fire, represented by the Wanton. The cultists have been overpowered by the influence of these dragon aspects, and it is from the Isle that they intend to build their forces in secrecy, so that they might prepare an invasion force capable of conquering Telara.

The Golden Maw - Patch 1.5

Find out about the lore behind the latest Ashes of History World Event launching tomorrow:

Pitiful plenty

Golden Maw: A mouth agape, with a bottomless gullet, starving even as it overflows with treasure. If another cult is as aptly named, do not say so around Laethys’s slaves, who are as envious as they are greedy, and they are greedy beyond all reason.

These are the corrupters and embezzlers, merchants who buy magistrates and magistrates happily bought. The Golden Maw holds its decadent rites in the halls of power and the parlors of the fabulously wealthy, and in the afterglow of gross indulgence they plot to seize more wealth and power.

This is What I Have For You

“VENGEANCE! VENGEANCE FOR KEENBLADE MILL!” shouted Kaspar Massi as his raiding party fell upon the Guardian caravan.

The sixty handpicked fighters charged with weapons held high, Kelari and Bahmi copying the ululating cry of their nomadic Eth cohorts. Massi himself came from nomad stock and howled long and loud as his scimitar ended a caravan guard’s attempt to call a rally.

Alsbeth Rothmann came to the Court of Mathos as a quiet young girl with sallow skin and dark hair who always stood behind the crowd, alone under the shadow of her family’s grave dishonor. Her ancient lineage had been in a slow and steady decline since Phynnious Rothmann, first of the Pyromancers, originally won glory. Her father had murdered her mother for adultery, and was himself executed in turn. Young Alsbeth found herself an orphan, and then a homeless one, as her uncle inherited the family estate and promptly kicked her out.

The Origins of the Endless Court

Six are the Dragon Cults, one for each of the Blood Storm, yet the most powerful and nihilistic of these cabals is the Endless Court. From the purest child to the vilest deviant, revulsion is the understandable reaction when one’s entire world is threatened with destruction. Yet some wretches fall outside understanding, people so twisted and perverse that annihilation seems a blessing. And from among their number come the cultists of the Endless Court. Offered a place in Regulos’s midnight realm, they trade flesh and breath for the hollow promise of power over the dead.

Hello to our wonderful lore hounds!

In general, Nick and I will try to mostly stand back and allow you all to speculate and postulate and put things together about the lore. Part of the fun of lore is putting it all together. However, the timeline — or should I say the MANY timelines — is something that has caused a huge amount of confusion. So, on this point, we wanted to make sure to provide some clarity.

At some point, we’ll put together something fancy and more specific than this, but for now, so you can get a better sense of the lengths of time of some of the world’s biggest events:

Prison of the Primal

Of the Blood Storm, no dragon was more familiar to mortal races than Greenscale the Primeval, though this familiarity was a source of terror and sorrow. Greenscale would thunder across Telara, turning every forest into an aggressive, invasive force, seeding the world in vines and vegetation that could devour cities. Even Maelforge, for whom destruction was an ecstatic joy, did not cause widespread devastation on par with Greenscale’s crusade against all things civilized and soft. When Thorvin Sternhammer and his allies finally defeated and imprisoned Greenscale, countless wretches had perished between his teeth, beneath his claws, choked upon his poison breath.

In Trion’s latest newsletter, “Rift Watch #8″, they tell us the story of Greenscale, Dragon of Life. It’s a shorty story about and elf named Arissia who is told never to journey into Greenscale’s forest.

During the Age of Dragons, there was a brave Elf girl named Arissia who wanted to go out into the forest. The forest had surrounded Arissia’s village since long before she was born, and no Elf was allowed to step beyond the clearing and into the writhing wood.

It is the magical technology that is powered by Telara itself. It allowed the races to push back the evil blood storm, and imprison them within Telara. Magitech has been at the center of the greatest cities Telara has ever seen. Those who perfect this technology are rumored to have created small worlds of diamonds, weapons that can wipe out entire bloodlines, and even stop death… This is the power of Magitech!

I would like to continue talking about how Magitech became the central driving force behind the Defiant force. For those of you that know what happened to the ancient Ethian cities, join me after the break to learn about Orphiel Farwind, and how he started a revolution on Telara.
