Warlocks are offensive specialists who embrace the darker forces of entropy and death. From within a cloak of protective shadow, these mages direct deathly energies inexorably consuming their enemies’ lives, and feeding the Warlock on their stolen breath.
Along with the Necromancer, Warlocks are also an easy soul to learn; and with a moderate amount of time and experience with this Soul, you’ll be able to master it. Warlocks benefit from having an arsenal of abilities which focus on damage over time and buffs that increase their damage overall by increasing the Warlock’s spell power, spell crit and damage dealt by spells. Even though Warlock’s don’t carry that punch in burst damage that other Souls in the Mage calling have, they make up for it in survivability via various spells and the ability to put a variety of spells that deal damage over time to as many enemies as you can.
Warlock’s Strengths:
As was said above, the Warlock carries a variety of spells that deal damage over time. These are very important to always keep up on your enemies if your intention is to kill them. Also, as was discussed in my previous Necromancer guide, Warlocks have the powerful combination of Life Leech and Void Bolt. With these two spells talented with Lingering Pain, Improved Life Leech and Improved Void Bolt, they pack quite a punch and will be your main spell combination when wanting to kill an enemy fast. With the combination of those two spells along with Defile, your enemies won’t stand a chance.
Warlocks also have various group utility and survival abilities that make them a very unique Soul. Specifically talking, they have Neddra’s Torture which increases magical damage taken on the enemy by 3% (which stacks with abilities like Exposure, Crumbling Resistance and other’s that increased magical damage taken by 7%), Empowered Darkness consumes the Warlock’s charge to increase the Warlock’s damage by 75% until all Charge is consumed, Neddra’s Essence which reduces damage taken by 80% for 7 seconds, and Shadow Life which increases the Warlock’s maximum health by 50% and heals the warlock for 50% of the new maximum health.

They have other abilities that are quite helpful to the Warlock as well: Choke silences the enemy for 5 seconds, Sacrifice Life: Mana will sacrifice 15% of the Warlock’s health to restore 15% of the Warlock’s mana, Sacrifice Life: Damage will increase the Warlock’s damage by 10% for 15 seconds, Fear and Mass Fear which incapacitates enemies for up to 10 seconds, and Warlock Armor which deals damage to the enemy for every attack you receive and heals you for a small amount and also increases your personal damage by 10% if talented with Improved Warlock Armor.
Warlock’s Weaknesses:
Even though Warlock’s have all these utility and survival abilities, along with all their damage spells, they tend to be very weak when encountering an enemy and having no Charge or having your survival abilities on cool down.
It is imperative as a warlock to always have your Neddra’s Essence, Shadow Life or Mortality spells available when encountering another enemy player or a group of mob’s that you want to kill. Otherwise, you’ll be dead before you know it and a dead Mage does no dps.
Warlock’s Soul Tree:
The Warlock’s Soul Tree, unlike the Necromancer, works well with itself and as well as combining it with any other Mage Soul. Warlock’s Soul Tree allows you to increase your personal Spell Damage, Spell Crit and Spell Power, which is useful for any Mage Soul combinations you want to make.
The best choice for 2nd Soul for Warlock would definitely be Necromancer, since both deal Death damage, and both Warlock and Necromancer Souls have talents that focus exclusively on increasing the damage on Death spells.
If you look over the Warlock tree, you can clearly tell that there are various Talents that increase Spell Power (Dark Power), Spell Crit (Potency) and Spell Damage (Improved Warlock Armor); thus it is a great choice as a secondary tree for any Mage Soul combinations you have planned.
You won’t go wrong whether choosing Warlock as your primary or secondary Soul, so go ahead and see what you can come up with personally!
