What was your first MMOG? What was your favorite?
First – Everquest.
First Serious – Anarchy Online
Favorite – Vanilla Wow
How did you get involved with making games?
I was interning at AT&T Labs doing DSP stuff and one of the people who worked there knew the VP of RND at SquareUSA. A call, email, resume and interview later and I was off to Hawaii to work on videogames.
What’s the coolest thing you’ve done so far in the creation of Rift: Planes of Telara?
I have been at this company a long time so I have done a lot of stuff (cool and not so cool). But some of the cool things that come to mind right now: Working on our quest/event scripting system, and working on the initial stuff for our rift and invasion encounters.
Can you provide a sample of your work, assuming it can be released to the public? (A snippet of lore, a screenshot of a vista, maybe a screen or video of a game system, a UI element or a few lines of quest text; or if you’re brave enough a picture of your desk?)

Care to tease the fans with your favorite in-game moment?
There has been a bunch, the first time I heard the music in Sanctum, the first time I saw a water rift, the first time I got to the final unstable stage of a rift with no time to spare, the first raid we finished. But something that happened recently that I really enjoyed was doing an instance and switching mid-instance from my range dps spec to my heal spec to my melee dps spec with my cleric, then after finishing the instance going off to do some daily quests with a warrior dpsing and a rogue tanking.
The great thing about our class system is that people can swap roles in a group pretty quickly; you are not pigeonholed to a specific role. I enjoy healing and I enjoying tanking and I enjoy doing dps and I enjoy support. They all become much more fun when you aren’t constantly doing one of the roles only.
